Catherine Carruthers, Art Historian and Art Advisor
Prior to founding NY Art Advisory, LLC, Catherine was an attorney at Kirkland & Ellis LLP focused on private equity mergers and acquisitions. Catherine left her successful corporate law career to pursue her passion in the fine arts. She earned her masters degree in Art History from Columbia University, where she specialized in modern and contemporary art, studying with leading art historians and theorists. At Columbia, Catherine authored a thesis on Gerhard Richter. Catherine received her law degree from Fordham University.
Catherine has guided private art expeditions in New York and Miami. She stays abreast of the contemporary art market through independent research, in addition to maintaining a rigorous schedule of visits to galleries and museums, as well as frequent attendance at international art exhibitions. Catherine also maintains affiliations with various museums and non-profit organizations dedicated to the advancement of the visual arts.
With her legal background, formal art historical training, and deep knowledge of the art markets, Catherine has developed a sophisticated perspective, negotiation skills and discretion. Through this lens, Catherine ensures that collectors build dynamic and valuable collections of art.
